Monster in the Midst
“What happened to my sweet baby???” I never thought Monster Status was possible as AB is a national treasure, but yet, here we are. Some monster tendencies include, but are not limited to:
Screaming meltdowns, totally naked
Screaming meltdowns, totally dressed
Screaming meltdowns, held in my arms
Screaming meltdowns, sitting down
Screaming meltdowns, running free
Mom Friends
Last week I OD’ed on social stuff with relative strangers and I feel so on blast from “putting myself out there,” I want to vomit. Like I am stuck on the sun, melting into my Birkenstocks.
Talking to a mom with her children around while you have your child around is a bizarre, upside-down world of non-sequeters that have never made me feel more like I live in a foreign country.
Are we understanding each other? Do I sound dumb? Are we friends now? Do I know nothing about you or everything about you? How did I ever live without you? Wait, what’s your last name?
Day-Care, Nursery, Nanny
For anyone who needed this clarified, but didn’t know it needed to be clarified:
Daycare is not nursery. (me).
I think I thought they were the same because daycare is called “nursery” in the UK and my sisters with kids live there.
I guess it’s like fags and pants.
All the nurseries here wouldn’t take AB before 2 or 2 1/2, which I think is the standard but then there’s daycare and that’s where babies as young as six weeks (sob!) are dropped off with perfect strangers.
I honestly didn’t think AB (I) would be ready for something like that until January but it’s just so clear she needs more than I can give her… plus, I can duck and hide for some peace and quiet.
We’re exploring two different options: The Mom & Pop and the Commercial Spot
Mom & Pop Pros / Cons:
Pro:
Walking Distance (5 min)
Real grass and yard, go outside every day, rain shine or snow (yes, i live here now)
Wood toys and “organic-looking” setting; also it’s old as fuck. like how in real estate, “charming” is a euphemism for shabby (sans chic)
Tons of natural light and not fully reliant on overhead lighting
Positive discipline method, which is what we’re already doing at home with both AB and our golden retriever
Set within the hills of our farm town and on a beautiful property
Con:
More expensive
Commercial Spot Pros / Cons:
Pros:
Reggio play-based system
Clean
Wood toys, Pickler triangles, all that shit I like to see on Mommy Instagram
Less expensive
Can order food easily and affordably if needed
Cons:
Cameras everywhere. I’d rather you take a few pics in the day and send to me than be able to watch AB all day or have someone else I don’t know watch AB all day.
Turf grass backyard with busy road on other side of the fence.
This yelp review from last month: “Absolute worst school EVER. STAY AWAY if you want your child in a safe environment. If you want your child bullied by other kids while the teachers turn a blind eye, sign away. Short staffed with teachers who have NO CLUE what they are doing. And the directors? Completely incompetent. If you love your child, please look elsewhere.”
